Gold has been used to replace missing teeth or restore worn down teeth for centuries. It is strong but malleable on its own. However, when combined with other metals, it has the potential to be extremely strong and durable—and can last many decades, and possibly a lifetime.

A range of different types of materials is available for the making of gold dentures & crowns. These include alloy metals, porcelain, ceramic, and resin, amongst others. They differ in durability and hence, longevity.

When gold is combined with other metals such as palladium, or nickel, it makes for a very durable denture or crown—being able to withstand wear and tear over time. They rarely get chipped or break. You, therefore, would not have to worry about needing to get a replacement any time soon.

Compared to porcelain or ceramic materials, which have a comparatively limited lifespan of about 5 to 15 years, gold alloys are durable.

Another important factor that is considered when choosing the right material for your denture or crown is its appearance. Gold alloys can be flashy to some, and some may prefer a more natural-looking material, such as porcelain or ceramic which is almost tooth-coloured.
